Description
This bowl was turned from a crotch piece of an elm tree we salvaged from a construction site in 2020.
A crotch on a tree is where the trunk grows into 2 or more trunks, this has the effect of producing beautiful grain figure in between the trunks.
I turned this bowl oversized soon after it was cut and then again to the final shape a year later after it had fully dried and deformed.
The waviness of the rim from the drying process and the small cracks in the knots give this piece a unique appearance.
This bowl was sanded to 400 grit and finished with multiple coats of pure walnut oil.
Walnut oil is a non-toxic, hard-drying oil that penetrates the wood to form a matte finish which emphasize the grain and color.
