Description
We rescued this poplar log in 2020 from a farm in Alberta where it would have probably faced combustion by campfire.
While this bowl has character with its irregular oval shape, it’s multiple knots and cracks, it is solid and has a nice heavy feel.
The colors and abstract figures of the grain pattern stimulate the imagination and can serve as focal point in any decor.
The rim of the bowl has the bark removed and follows the natural shape of the wood and features a nice crack.
After a year of drying I flattened the bottom so it can sit flat again.
This bowl was sanded to 400 grit and finished with multiple coats of pure tung oil.
Tung oil is a non-toxic, hard-drying oil that penetrates the wood to form a matte finish which emphasize the grain and color.
