Description

We rescued this poplar log from a farm in Alberta where it would have certainly faced combustion by campfire.

This bowl was turned soon after the tree was cut which resulted in some interesting distortion of the bowl shape as it dried and shrunk.

After a year of drying I flattened the bottom so it can sit flat again.

The colors and abstract shape of the grain pattern around the many knots produce a unique rustic appearance from any angle.

This bowl was sanded to 400 grit and finished with multiple coats of pure tung oil.

Tung oil is a non-toxic, hard-drying oil that penetrates the wood to form a matte finish which emphasize the grain and color.
